Structures of Native and Model Plasma Lipoproteins
Research Description
Research in the Pownall laboratory uses structural and mechanistic approaches to developing new methods for the reversal of heart disease. Major concepts include thermodynamics and chemical kinetics. The major methodology is fluorescence spectroscopy. Studies extend from purely biochemical/biophysical to cell and mouse studies of cardioprotection via novel mechanisms. Ancillary methods include immunoblotting, fluorescence microscopy, calorimetry, mass spectrometry.
