Research Description
I have been working on genomic sequence assembly and related analysis. I assembled the low coverage dolphin genome and wallaby genome; analyzed the polymorphisms in several microbial genome as well as Dr. Watson's genome. Currently I am working on the meta-genomics aspect of the Human Microbiome Project. In detail, the project will study the symbiotic microbes within certain human organ as a whole, especially the ensemble of their genomes. We will be dealing with DNA sequence fragments from multiple microbes at differing abundunce together, possibly produced by different sequencing technologies. We do not only want to assemble them into longer more contiguous sequence, we want to set the standard to measure the diversity and other ensemble characteristics of the data, and develop methods to compare different individuals' metagenomics data directly. It could turn out that one's microbiome is equally important as one's genome in terms of disease diagnosis.
